Information About Luke - Dublin tutor

Personal Description:

I am from Dublin and I am 35 years old. I have been tutoring for 15 years. I have a BSc in Mathematical Physics, an MSc in Mathematics and a PhD in Physics. I was doing a postdoc in the University of Aberdeen until last April.
Currently, I am working on my own Startup Company related to property valuation. Currently this is in development and I wish to take on students as a source of income while I build up this company.
I have many interests including climbing, hiking and digital art. I also love to teach.

Tutoring Experience:

I tutored one on one grinds from the time I was an undergraduate. I taught Maths and Applied Maths in Caritas College Ballyfermot for two years from 2008-2010 and I tutored Maths in UCD from 2011 to 2017 in many departments (statistics, business, engineering, science). I also tutored in the Maths Support Centre, a drop in maths help service in UCD, and I tutored in the 'Maths for teachers' course in which secondary school teachers were up-skilling in order to teach Maths in secondary schools. In my PhD I did a lot of programming in Matlab, Python and C++. I can tutor students at 2nd or 3rd level in a variety fo subjects

Approach to Grinds:

My philosophy on grinds is that students learns in different ways and it is up to the tutor to figure this out. Sometimes this will mean spending more time building up the intuitive understanding of concepts. Sometimes it will mean drawing pictures or making graphs. Sometimes it will mean speeding up and getting right to the point. My job as a tutor is to figure out how you learn so I can adapt my approach accordingly.
Also, when I tutor online I share all materials over google drive and make a spreadsheet to record our progress. I also give exercises and mark homework. I find this system encourages students to keep their notes in order and in the one place.
