Personal Description:
A chairde,
I am offering €40 per hour Irish grinds and €40 p/h corrections for Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students, university and PME students and casual adult learners. I cover Paper 1 writing and grammar skills and oral tuition. After a year working as a secondary school teacher, I spent two years with Conradh na Gaeilge working solely though Irish, promoting the language in schools around the country. I then spent a further year teaching in a secondary school and am now working in the publishing industry. I have a First Class Honours degree in Gaeilge from NUIG, am fully fluent in the language and speak it on a daily basis in my social circles.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught at Rosemont Secondary School in Sandyford, Dublin. I taught both the Junior and Leaving Cert curriculum. I then spent a year with Conradh na Gaeilge travelling to over 150 schools around the country giving Irish language TY workshops. After this, I spent a year based in the Conradh na Gaeilge offices, where I taught adult Irish courses in Trinity and D.I.T. outside office hours. I spent an additional year teaching in the CBS Secondary School in Naas.
I have spent numerous summers in the Galway Gaeltacht teaching at summer courses.
Approach to Grinds:
My overall aim in any grind is to help the student put together simple, grammatically correct Irish sentences, both in written and oral form. This is the most important skill they need, as opposed to learning off lots of complicated notes they don't understand, and therefore won't remember.
The Leaving Cert course has recently been restructured to reward students with a genuine ability to speak the language. I don't teach the literature section of the courses, as these questions are worth very little marks. The oral, composition and comprehension sections are much more important.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. Really appreciate that. Delighted to hear that you are both happy with the grinds. Lots of progress being made, I think.
