Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Kara, I am a 26 year old engineer who recently graduated the University of Limerick with a First Class Honours in aerospace engineering. I am currently working full time as an engineer for a local company, and have been living in Limerick for almost two years now. I am a native English speaker, and will happily answer any further queries you may have about my qualifications.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a part of multiple study groups throughout my 5 years of education, and have mentored fellow students on three different occasions helping them achieve a minimum of a B1 in their coursework.

Approach to Grinds:

Before the first session starts, I will ask for some basic information (namely areas of the subject where the student is struggling in, any specific concepts they cannot grasp etc). I will also discuss with the student my expectations for them and how my lessons will work, and if they have any accommodations they would like me to make for them. I have worked with people who have autism and ADHD before and I am happy to make extra accommodations.

My teaching approach is as follows:

First, a detailed explanation of the problem that is being analysed is done, shortly followed with some examples that are worked out alongside the student. Following that, the student should be given a set of problems, similar to the ones worked out and asked to attempt them.

Should the student struggle to understand, additional examples are given, to help better contextualise the problem, and if need be, a step by step approach will be taken to identify the area where the student is struggling. Once the area is found, the specific section causing the difficulty is broken down into simpler explanations to allow the student to better understand what is required of them.

At the end of each session I will assign a small worksheet to be completed within the week. Once received, I will correct it, and go through it step by step with the student to identify and explain any mistakes made. Questions on the worksheet will be similar to those faced by the student in the exam to help better prepare them for their examinations.
