Personal Description:
My name is Juan, born in Madrid. I am a certified Spanish teacher working in the University of Limerick. Entitled to a Master's Degree as a teacher of Spanish by the University of Barcelona and Instituto Cervantes and another Master's Degree on Secondary Teaching, Vocational Training and Languages.
Thanks to my experience with many types of students, I have the ability to prepare classes individually and adapt to the needs of the student.
Tutoring Experience:
I have more than 8 years of experience teaching Spanish to all levels and ages. In recent years I have specialized in working with Junior and Leaving Certificate students and with adult students who want to learn Spanish for leisure or professional reasons.
Languages have always attracted me. I've been studying other languages my whole life. Because of this, I am well aware of the problems that a student can have when deciding to study a foreign language. But I also know how exciting and rewarding it is. I still train every day to keep learning.
Approach to Grinds:
Speaking Spanish facilitates us to meet people all over the world, have more job opportunities, and, of course, enjoy literature, music, and the history and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

From Fiona (/5): (Junior Cycle Spanish) We have only had Juan for a few sessions but my son seems engaged so far. He gets on well with him and explains the methodology of the teaching. I like that it’s at a slow pace as opposed to the fast paced there is at school. I want my son not to feel so overwhelmed with a subject he’s struggling with and so far he’s pleased with Juan’s approach. We are happy to continue with Juan until my son feels he’s on top and is understanding it really well.

My daughter has only started picking up the language therefore it was very important to choose a native speaker that understands the leaving cert curriculum. Juan is very patient and super easy to deal with. More importantly, my daughter is very comfortable and finding the lessons very beneficial. I would highly recommend Juan.

Juan is an excellent teacher; he is very patient, very thorough and explains everything very clearly. It gave them the opportunity to practise speaking Spanish one to one, which rarely happens in a class with 28 pupils. We are continuing the lessons even though they are back at school as the chance to practise oral and aural skills is invaluable. Thank you!

The classes were enjoyable and the way you related topics to everyday life made them easier to learn. the topics were also relevant topics. There is a good mix between speaking and learning from the book in class. The one thing i will try do a lot more myself when learning spanish again is listening to more tapes, i think this is one of the most important things that i did not realise, and how fast spanish is spoken.
