Personal Description:
I have recently moved to Dublin from South Africa where I studied undergraduate and postgraduate (Honours) degrees in Pure Mathematics. I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2018 and have been working as a software developer in South Africa since then. I am still passionate about maths and maths education and feel that tutoring would be a fun and engaging way to earn some extra money.
Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored extensively in my university and later professional career. I have privately tutored family friends at both high school and university level. I also volunteered to teach high school students in underprivileged areas of Cape Town, this was in a group setting, 2-3 tutors and about 20 students. I have also tutored in an official capacity at the University of Cape Town, this included hosting weekly tutorials, as well as marking tests and exams for second year Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra students.
Approach to Grinds:
I feel that one of my strengths is to understand a problem or more generally an area of maths in many different ways. This enables me to go with the student's logic and understanding and find where they are struggling rather than dictating a given method. I feel that this helps to instill confidence in the student and will yield a better overall understanding.
