Personal Description:
I am currently a student in Trinity College Dublin studying Integrated Computer Science. My optional subjects for the leaving cert were Physics (H1), Chemistry (H1), Construction studies (H1), DCG (H1) and Applied Math's (H2). I have a special interest in teaching those who may be struggling at any area of Math's, Physics or Chemistry. I understand the importance of exams and am willing to work with students to help them regain their confidence when approaching an exam.
I also received 625 points in the leaving cert consisting of 6 H1's and 1 H2.
Tutoring Experience:
I have previously helped within the Math's support group in my secondary school in 5th and 6th year. I also taught programming (Python, HTML and CSS) in the coding club in my secondary school during the two years of my leaving cert. I also have 8 years of teaching programming at the local CoderDojo in Navan, where I taught a variety of programming languages, from Scratch to HTML.
Approach to Grinds:
Letting the student gain a true understanding of the concepts in the Maths/Physics/Chemistry course is the ultimate goal in my grinds sessions. I would rather spend 20-30 minutes with a student going over something they don't understand, as opposed to just letting them do questions their familiar with. A student needs to be prepared to get questions wrong to improve their skills. I would push students outside their comfort zones, whilst still explaining concepts in an approachable manner. I'll also give them useful study tips, to ensure that they put emphasis on topics that are likely to come up in the upcoming Leaving Cert (or Junior Cycle) exam.
Getting a H1 in any of these subjects can be a hard task, but with the right approach and mindset towards the exam, your much more likely to get a higher H than you expected.
***PLEASE NOTE*** I am currently booked for this academic year and am unavailable for grinds.
