Personal Description:
First class Msci graduate of Imperial College London, Experienced teacher at highest rated Sixth Form for Maths in the UK. Experience at all levels, friendly and open teaching approach!
Fully qualified teacher and experienced mathematicians with over 100 hours 1-1 tutoring sessions at many different ability levels. Trained at highest scoring public sixth form in the country, where I use student led lessons to teach and motivate students. Vast knowledge of mathematics and its uses within the real world, able to raise anyone`s interest in mathematics, and push any students far beyond the curriculum.
First lesson will be assessing student`s ability and interests in maths, before filling in gaps in knowledge. Further lessons will be going over set homeworks and learning new topics through unconventional introductions and real-life examples.
I am an accomplished, energetic and focused educator who is committed to bettering attainment and inspiring students with unconventional methods. I have experience working with students at all ability levels but especially for those currently struggling or lacking motivation, or those who feel they are not being adequately streched and challenged within school.
Tutoring Experience:
I have many hours of tutoring experience with pupils through tutoring from a young age, which continued into my work as a peer tutor to first year students in my time at Imperial and my work as a mentor for MEI`s summer programme that prepared Y12 students for entrance exams such as MAT and STEP.
I joined King`s College London Mathematics School, the highest performing state school in the UK, after graduating. I worked there as a resident mathematician to help struggling students catch up quickly through 1-1 sessions, and also taught many classes through the Outreach programmes such as MEMSE and GCSE+ for free school meals children of all ages and abilities, and continued to prepare students for entrance exams in partnership with KCL.
I then trained for my PGCE in KCLMS, having full responsibility for classes full of students that required expertise far beyond the national curriculum whilst also keeping up with my Outreach work. I had a half term in Oasis Southbank Academy teaching much larger classes with a wider range of attainments, motivating them to succeed and see the beauty in mathematics.
I have worked as a peer tutor to first year Imperial students in my Masters year over Teams, and as a mentor to Y12 students for entrance exams for MEI and KCL. I have experience interviewing many students for admission to KCLMS and often help younger cousins with maths online also, making me very experienced in online teaching.
Approach to Grinds:
I believe in heavy Sоcrаtic questiоning and catalysing conversations between the student and tutor, а technique thаt allows students to discover solutions and concepts themselves so they feel involved in their own learning and hence develop a greater passion for and understanding & recall of the material.
