Personal Description:
I am a dedicated linguist and enthusiastic teacher, passionate about sharing the joy of language with others. I have a doctorate in German and French (2009) and have published a book on language learner experiences. I also have a First Class masters in German literature and language pedagogy (2005) from Trinity College Dublin and a masters in French and German linguistics from Cambridge University (2002). I have a certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from International House, London and a certificate in German-English translation from Words Languages Services, Dublin.
Tutoring Experience:
I have wide-ranging teaching experience including teaching for ten years in the German department at Trinity College Dublin. I have also taught English as a Foreign Language to adults and teenagers in Ireland, the UK and Germany, adult literacy sessions and teacher trainer sessions for university teaching assistants.
Approach to Grinds:
The first session begins with an assessment of the student's needs (whether that's exam preparation, or language learning for business or pleasure) and learning preferences and I develop a schedule of activities tailored to the students specific requirements e.g. weak points of grammar, extension of vocabulary, oral communication in predetermined topic areas. Each session will cover the four key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening as necessary. I give students the tools and confidence to further develop their own competence between sessions with focused short exercises that can be easily integrated into everyday life. I would be delighted to help you make the most of your own untapped potential for language learning!

My son has made significant progress during his weekly lessons. Helen gave him suitable feedback after ever lesson, and homework which was corrected and discussed. She communicated with me throughout the process.
I couldn't recommend Helen more highly. She is a fantastic teacher and has passed on her love of languages to our house.
