Personal Description:
I recently submitted my PhD thesis in theoretical astrophysics in Maynooth University and will graduate later this year.
I also have an undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Edinburgh.
I have a great interest in teaching, science communication and computer science.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been giving part-time private maths grinds (for Junior Cert, Leaving Cert and undergraduate courses) since 2014.
I have worked as a substitute teacher for Maths, Science and Physics in secondary schools.
I have many years of experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for undergraduate students in both Trinity College Dublin and Maynooth University.
Approach to Grinds:
I first assess the student's needs: I note what particular areas of a given subject they are struggling with.
My aim is that the student develops an understanding of what's going on in a problem. And they also develop an intuition on how to solve it.
I focus on theory, then go through several examples of it in practice with them.
I also go through many past exam questions to practice solving problems under a time constraint.
