Personal Description:

A fully qualified and experienced secondary teacher of French and German for 18 years. Language Tutor, Coach and Owner of Tutoring service, 'Tutorials in Dublin'. Author of COMPLETE GERMAN GRAMMAR and French Grammar and Vocabulary book, LISEZ, TRADUISEZ, RÉUSSISSEZ! Have always had a passion for foreign languages and teaching and tutoring students in French and German. Author of several online language products aimed at second level French and German students. Have also been working as a French and German Mock oral examiner in schools in Dublin.

Tutoring Experience:

St. Raphaela's Girls Secondary School, Stillorgan (French), Anna Livia Tutors (French and German), Sandford Language Institute (French and German) and more recently The Dublin Academy of Education as a day school German teacher and an evening grinds tutor (3rd, 5th and 6th year students). A private tutor of second level French and German for many years via my own tutoring service. Also tutor third level students in preparation for French and German college exams.

Approach to Grinds:

Grinds are tailored to the students' individual learning needs and carried out in a relaxed and fun atmosphere of encouragement and support. I focus primarily on key areas of the exam in which students need help in preparation for the Junior Cert or Leaving Cert exams. Major emphasis is placed on the oral exams (including pronunciation) particularly at senior level with the provision of ready-made templates to be worked through and filled in by students in each grind. I introduce students to marking schemes and show them how they can maximise their marks by including or excluding certain information and simply by knowing how they need to answer exam questions. I teach or revise key language areas in which students may be experiencing difficulty, offering mnemonic devices to help easily remember vital language material. Frequent practice of past exam questions with students, homework and regular oral testing of material, eg, French/German verbs, tenses and/or vocabulary is also done. The overall aim is to boost students' confidence in each language by ensuring that students are well equipped with the necessary reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to achieve their desired results. Expert, quality notes are printed and provided to each student.

I also coach students and create action plans with them in relation to their study of important and relevant material required for each language exam.
