Personal Description:

I am a teaching and education professional with over eight years experience in both second and third level education. Specifically, I have specialized in English Literature, Critical Skills and Writing and have taught students English at both second and third level, developing a teaching portfolio that promotes student engagement with core texts, while also developing their critical capabilities in terms of discursive and creative writing. I have tutored and lectured English at third level and have been delivering grinds at second level for the last number of years, with all my students achieving above a H3 grade. I am an avid reader, involved in the Irish literary and theatre scene and I fundamentally believe in the transformative power of literature, a passion that I try to convey to each one of my students as I guide them along to getting the best grade possible.

Tutoring Experience:

I am employed as occasional staff at an Irish University, where I have been a tutor with the English department since 2013. I am highly experienced, tutoring first, second and third year undergraduate students. I specialize in the following areas of teaching: Criticism, research and writing, studies in literary form, foundational English, Irish studies and close reading of prose fiction. I developed and taught a course on gender, which was very popular with second year students.
I am also a researcher and have published on the topics of Gender, Psychoanalysis, Ageing and Age Studies, Irish theatre, Irish literature and Irish performance art. I regularly present at Irish and International conferences on these topics.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to grinds involves a robust approach that will familiarize students with exam papers, the marking scheme and the textual materials required, particularly for Paper 2. In particular, I aim to:

-Develop a bank of answers in response to the exam papers, preparing students for every possible answer.
-Developing critical approaches and strategies to Sections A and B on Paper 1's Comprehension.
-Using writing workshops and seminars to improve the students ability to develop and deliver comprehensive and powerful essays.
-While getting students to develop a bank of essays and sample answers, I also encourage them and help them to develop strategies to think critically, particularly in the context of any curveballs occurring on the paper.
-Providing and helping students to develop notes and key points for revision.
