Personal Description:

Hello, I’m Darragh! I'm currently training to become a Chartered Accountant with one of the Big 4 accounting firms, working in their Audit and Assurance department. I’m currently preparing for my Final Admittance Examinations (FAEs) with Chartered Accountants Ireland. I hold a First Class Honours in a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (NFQ Level 9) from Atlantic Technological University, and I successfully passed my CAP 2 exams on my first attempt.

Tutoring Experience:

I have extensive experience helping students prepare for both college and professional accounting exams. As mentioned above, I have achieved strong results in accounting exams in recent years, with a particular strength in Financial Accounting, which makes up 80% of the marks in the Leaving Cert Accounting Exam. I achieved an overall score of 93% in Financial Accounting at university, 74% in my CAP 2 exams with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), and 79% in the recent Advanced Financial Reporting Assessment for FAE with CAI, where the national average was 54%.

Being a student who is currently preparing for exams, I am in a unique position to understand the challenges students face and can offer support that is both effective and empathetic.

Approach to Grinds:

The key to achieving high marks in accounting is recognizing that practicing questions is essential for driving your learning. My approach to exam preparation revolves around this principle. Particularly for Leaving Certificate Accounting, the exam format is highly predictable year after year, with a limited range of topics being tested. This means that with focused preparation, students can achieve a high number of points in a relatively short amount of study time compared to other subjects.

A common challenge students face is not knowing how to start a question, leading to hours of frustration trying to figure it out. My goal is to eliminate this wasted time and enable students to dive straight into developing their skills and speed right from the start.

I offer live one-on-one tutoring sessions that focus on the techniques needed to approach each type of exam question effectively. Additionally, I provide ongoing support through WhatsApp, allowing students to reach out whenever they encounter difficulties with their studies. This can be a game-changer in helping students study more efficiently, as one of the biggest pitfalls in accounting is spending too long trying to understand a particular figure.
