Personal Description:

Experienced grinds teacher (B.A, M.G.O) at primary, secondary and third level. I have a B.A sa Ghaeilge and completed my teacher training masters through Irish in NUIG. I was not brought up in an Irish speaking family but I fell in love with the language and culture at school. I love to pass on the grá and passion I have for the language to my classes. I love showing students that Gaeilge is a language first and a subject second. This has allowed me to create positive working relationships with my students.

Tutoring Experience:

Thought for 2 years in a Gaelcholáiste and in my 6th teaching Gaeilge in an English medium school. I teach honours Gaeilge at both JC and LC level. I spend most summers in the Gaeltacht working as a Príomhoide (Principal). I am an experienced oral examiner and 2 years experience correcting state exams which has massively benefited my teaching and my student’s learning.

Approach to Grinds:

I like to gauge the needs and goals of student in order to create a tailored plan which is engaging and practical with a bit of fun involved. I endeavor to develop the skills required which enables the student to grow and develop, but also work independently so as they do not come to depend on grinds. The plan is clear and the student will quickly see the benefit of their grinds work in their Gaeilge lessons at school. I pay particular attention to oral skills as it is a huge part of the the LC exam at OL and HL (40%). There will be a grammar focus in each grind which the student can bring into their written and oral work. Exam papers and marking schemes are used to allow students to develop an exam technique which allows them to maximize their marks.
