Information About Ciara - Strandhill tutor

Personal Description:

Hi I'm Ciara! I am a final year student at University of Galway Ireland, studying business and specializing in accountancy. I am from Sligo originally but have spent the past few years in Galway and also on Erasmus in Belgium which was a fantastic experience. In my spare time I enjoy Irish dancing, I have been dancing since I was 4 years old. I would describe myself as hardworking, patient and outgoing. I would love to make students lives easier by helping them gain a better understanding of not only how to do things but why we do things.

Tutoring Experience:

When I was a student I took grinds myself in subjects I found difficult, for example languages was never my strong point, so I know how it feels sitting on the other side of the desk. I think it is important to have an open communication throughout grinds, I always asked numerous questions as a student and I would highly encourage this, as it is important to ensure that the student is clear on how they need to approach questions and why this is.
With regards to teaching, as I have mentioned above, I have been Irish dancing for 17 years and have lots of experience teaching other dancers over the years. Although in ways this is very different to tutoring grinds, the experience of teaching and having the patience to help students is definitely a transferable skill. I have also trained incoming employees of all ages in part-time jobs and have always been willing to help them as much as I can. Teaching is definitely something I enjoy and find very satisfying and believe is very suited to my personality.

Approach to Grinds:

I ensure each grind is tailored towards the student. Each student is at a different level, has different abilities and different goals also. I understand some students want to achieve the highest possible grade which is great. Other students want to pass the exam, which is also wonderful. With the help of tailored notes, previous exam questions and regular testing I believe I can really help students get to where they want to be. There will also be the option of homework to do from week to week if the student wants this, if so, this will also be examined and corrected throughout the grind, and any mistakes will be explained and hopefully not repeated!
