Information About Aoife - Roscommon tutor

Personal Description:

My name is Aoife and I am currently studying Science Education at the University of Limerick. I have a passion for all things science, especially Biology and Chemistry, and I cannot wait to become a full time teacher. I got five H1's (including Biology) and two H2's in my Leaving Cert. I aspire to instil the same sense of passion for science in my students that my science teacher instilled within me. As well as science, I have many hobby's including Irish dancing and music. I am an avid Irish dancer and have won many titles over the years; North American Champion, Scottish Open Champion, All Ireland Champion and World Champion. I am looking forward to completing my teaching exams and becoming an Irish Dance teacher alongside being a science teacher, I also have a love for music. I play both the tin whistle and the piano. Music has always been a large part of my life has led me to the place I am today.

Tutoring Experience:

I have completed four months of teaching practice, in which I taught Biology and Chemistry to 5th year students. I created my own notes on each of the chapters for the Leaving Cert Biology course, and got feedback from my students as to what formats they found easiest to learn (i.e. diagrams, charts, maps etc.). I also taught Junior Cert science for the duration of my teaching practice placement.

Approach to Grinds:

Firstly, I want to assess where the student is at in their understanding and learning, so that I can create a study plan specific to their needs and goals. I have created created my own notes on all of the Leaving Cert Biology chapters and have included diagrams and models that I think simplify the topic. I intend to take a very practical approach to teaching. From experience, I find that the best way to learn is to cover a topic in theory and follow it up with practical and real life examples in order to fully understand the topic at hand. Furthermore, I believe it is really important to complete exam based questions on the topic as this trains the brain to prepare for the exam
