Personal Description:
I am a qualified post-primary MFL teacher with over 12 years’ experience. I hold a First Class Honours Professional Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin and was awarded both the ASTI Award for Highest Grade in Teaching Practice and the Crawford Memorial Award for Highest Overall Academic Achievement. I have taught French and Spanish across all year groups, including Leaving Cert Higher Level, and have worked in Gaelcholáistí since 2013. I am a fluent Irish speaker.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching MFL since 2011 and have extensive experience teaching French and Spanish across all year groups, including Higher Level Leaving Cert. My students have consistently achieved H1 grades, and I have supported a broad range of learner profiles—from high-achieving students to those requiring extra scaffolding at Junior Cycle level. I have led curricular innovation within MFL departments and I am trained in Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI), a teaching method that helps students build fluency and confidence through repetition, listening, and structured speaking tasks. It focuses on using language in real and meaningful ways, making grammar and vocabulary stick—without overwhelming students… My students have received national recognition, including an award in the MFL Digital Storytelling Competition and a win in a Spanish Debating Blitz.
Approach to Grinds:
My grinds focus on fluency, confidence, and exam success. I use Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI) and design tailored sentence builders that allow students to recycle high-impact structures across a range of tasks. This means they can produce H1-standard writing without the cognitive overload of bulk rote learning. Lessons include regular retrieval practice, fluency training, and listening-as-modelling techniques to strengthen oral performance. I use gamified tasks to keep sessions engaging, and I prioritise self-efficacy—helping students believe in their own ability to succeed, which is key to both learning and exam achievement. Students also have access to high-quality digital platforms such as SentenceBuilders, The Language Gym, and TextActivities.
