Personal Description:

Hey, I'm Alex! I have always been passionate about science, especially biology, from a young age. In secondary school I studied all three science disciplines; chemistry, biology and physics and was proud to achieve a H1 grade (90-100%) in all three subjects in the leaving certificate. Overall I achieved 601 points out of the maximum available of 625, with H1 grades in all three sciences and geography and H2 grades in English, Mathematics and Spanish.

After finishing school I went on to study biological sciences at Imperial College London. As part of my degree, I spent a year at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, developing novel approaches for treating breast cancer. After finishing with strong upper second class honours (69%) I am now undertaking a master's degree in Immunotherapeutics at Trinity College Dublin.

Outside of science, I enjoy keeping active and regularly play field hockey and swim. I also play jazz piano and hope to join a band whilst in Dublin!

Tutoring Experience:

In secondary school, I frequently tutored students between the ages of 12 to 15 in science and mathematics.

Once I was in university I had the opportunity as a student ambassador to tutor and help students in science who were between the ages of 12 to 17. Outside of this in-person teaching, I also have experience in online tutoring with the UK service Cambridge Online Tutors.

I look forward to applying the skills I have so far developed to help students succeed in science!

Approach to Grinds:

I strongly believe that with the right positive support and stimulating exercises every scientific discipline can become a joy to learn.

I aim to share my passion for science with every student I tutor by sharing both my personal experiences of scientific research and exciting real-life applied examples of how scientific progress and discovery can improve people's lives.

Rather than helping students to learn a list of facts, I strive to broaden their understanding so that they can really get to grips with the subject and be confident to answer any types of questions that they may be given in an exam setting.
