I am a friendly and enthusiastic person who has experience of teaching GCSE maths in a secondary school. I spend a lot of time preparing for each tutor session and plan to get you the results that your efforts deserve.
My background is that I'm a computer science graduate who has retired early, due to redundancy, after a successful career in IT. I completed part of a PGCE course for secondary maths teaching in 2016 but prefer working as a tutor to being in a classroom. I can help students of all abilities by teaching them how to think about their approach to answering questions. I want others to get the opportunities I have had through getting qualifications in maths, science and computing.
I have experience of tutoring several students and have been successful in increasing their grades from failing to confident passing of their exams.
I was DBS checked for a previous job and for my maths teaching but that is now "out of date".
I'm happy to negotiate on price if you want longer sessions and am also keen to help potentially failing students who really want to pass their exams. Travel time, parking and other costs may also need to be considered.
20 weeks teaching support in maths in Hasting as part of a maths subject enhancement course at University of Brighton.
Placement in a school as a trainee secondary maths teacher from September to December 2016.
Helping my own children with their GCSEs.
Tutor work for primary and secondary maths and science.
One of my most improved students came from spending 2 years teaching a student who was between grades 1 and 2 at the start of his GCSE 2 year studies and he achieved a grade 5 in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Most of the credit is down to his hard work, with my encouragement, but I did manage to get him interested in improving and understanding the subjects.
I've also managed to improve the grades of failing maths students into good pass grades.
Listen to what the student wants to gain from the tutoring, helping with basic skills ( when needed ) and how to tackle problems, consolidation of what has been taught in school, discussing approach to homework and revision. Use of past exam papers to teach students how questions are marked so that they can gain marks even on questions that they struggle with.
