Martin

I am a teacher from Enfield tutoring English from GCSE to A level - including 11+ entrance exams - covering all aspects of grammar, study skills, literature as well as having a wide knowledge of all the different exam boards.
I am currently (June 2023) an examiner for English Language GCSE (AQA), and have previously been an examiner for English language A level (AQA) - June 2018.
I also teach from Key Stage 3, having previously taught in secondary schools for a number of years.
As well as tutoring in all things 'English', I also specialise in literature (particularly Chaucer/Shakespeare/the Romantics to the Moderns) and continental philosophy.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching English since 2003 when I obtained my first position at a secondary school. I worked at two further secondary schools, until moving onto teaching at a sixth form centre. I am currently working at a sixth form centre where I teach English from level 1 to A level. I currently teaching A level English literature, A level English language and A level English language and literature. As well as being able to teach grammar at advanced level, I am also able to teach grammar at school level.
In addition, I also teach study skills (exam technique, memory aids) and use NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) to help students with concentrating, dealing with stress and exam concerns.

Tutoring Approach

I have been tutoring locally since 2005 on a 'one-to-one' basis. My approach is 'student focused'. I encourage students to build upon their current skills set and get them to focus on their areas of weakness. In addition I aim to give meaningful feedback as well as target setting to develop students' full academic potential.
