Private Maths Tuition in Bognor Regis

My students love my friendly, patient approach. They ✦ grow confident as I make things ✦ easy to understand and ✦ remember; even the most challenging concepts.

If you're looking for ✦ First Class Tuition at a ✦ Competitive Rate, then you're in absolutely the right place!

● IMPORTANT: Before You Choose

It’s really important to choose the ✦ right tutor for you. So, on this page, I’d like to show you ✦ what makes me ✦ unique, compared to other tutors, so you can make a fully ✦ informed choice.

I’ll show you exactly ✦ how I get ✦ great results for my students. Then you can ✦ decide if this could ✦ work for ✦ you too!

I’ll also clarify exactly: ✦ what I cover; ✦ who I can help; and ✦ what my students say about my ✦ unique approach.

Before I get into that, however, there are ✦ three things you should know up-front:

● 1) LIMITED SPACES

I do have some ✦ capacity for a few extra students right now, because of spaces created by those who passed their exams this Summer. They're ✦ filling up quickly though. So, if you'd like me to help you, please ✦ get in touch soon to ✦ avoid disappointment.

● 2) LOCK INTO 2023-24 FEES - with no future increases!

You’ve probably noticed that tuition ✦ rates are increasing everywhere, along with the price of everything. You'll be pleased to hear that when I put my rates up, they do ✦ not apply to my ✦ ongoing students, as long as they don't take a break of more than 3 months. This means you’ll be able to ✦ lock into my current rates for as long as you like, even if you continue for another ✦ year or two, no matter how much they increase for my other students.

So, if you like what you see on this page, and you'd like to ✦ lock into tuition rates that will never increase for you, no matter how many years I tutor you, please ✦ get in touch ✦ right away.

● 3) FEE STRUCTURE

My fees are ✦ very competitive for the ✦ quality of tuition you'll get. They depend on a range of ✦ factors that you can ✦ choose.

Most of my students (or their parents) pay about ✦ £35 to £45 an hour. But, when you review the ✦ Fees and Terms section towards the bottom of this page, you’ll see why some can pay as ✦ little as ✦ £25 an hour, and why others pay ✦ more, based on the ✦ options they choose.

Factors that affect your cost are things like:
✦ The level of support you're looking for (up to GCSE is lower cost than higher level support),
✦ Whether you want your tuition at ✦ weekends rather than ✦ midweek (Monday to Friday rates are lower),
✦ What ✦ time of the day suits you best (10am to 3pm is very low cost, which is ideal for home educators),
✦ How ✦ long you'd like each session to last (discounts apply for extended sessions),
✦ How ✦ many sessions you'd like to book each week (discounts also apply for multiple sessions per week), and
✦ How many ✦ weeks ahead you're happy to book at a time (prepaying further ahead saves you money).

These are fully detailed at the bottom of this page, together with my Terms of Service.

Tutoring Experience

● WHAT I COVER: SATs, 11+, GCSE, A Level and more
(including ✦ iGCSE, ✦ AS Level, ✦ Further Maths, ✦ International Baccalaureate, and ✦ Scholarship Entrance Exams ✦ as well as preparation for ✦ Math Competitions, like the ✦ Junior Math Challenges and ✦ Scottish Math Council Challenges, and preparation for the ✦ Merchant Navy Marine Chief Engineer exams General Engineering Science I and II)

I have a ✦ solid track record of helping students, both ✦ young and older, ✦ succeed in Maths.

● GCSE (Foundation and Higher, including Further Maths)

For example, if you’re struggling to reach the standard needed to just pass your ✦ Foundation Level ✦ GCSE (or ✦ IGCSE) exam, or hoping to maximize your grade with the ✦ Higher Tier, I can certainly help you.

I can support you with ✦ homework, coach you by mirroring your ✦ school schedule, or focus on specific areas of ✦ difficulty, or guide you through your ✦ full Maths syllabus in a step-by-step order, starting with the easiest topics and building you week-by-week ready to ✦ conquer your exam.

And if you’re also taking ✦ other GCSEs (or IGCSEs), like combined or individual ✦ sciences, you’ll find that greater fluency in maths will also ✦ improve those important grades. I will even ✦ coach you in those specific areas too, if needed, especially ✦ Physics and ✦ Chemistry, to help you fly through the ✦ maths elements of your science exams.

● GCSEs in Wales (Foundation, Intermediate and Higher)

I can support students in ✦ Wales, who have slightly different requirements with ✦ WJEC for both the ✦ Mathematics GCSE and the ✦ Mathematics - Numeracy GCSE exams at ✦ Foundation, ✦ Intermediate, and ✦ Higher Levels as well as supporting ✦ younger students preparing for their ✦ annual end-of-year maths assessments.

● SATs, 11+ and Scholarships

I can help younger students succeed with their ✦ SATs and ✦ 11+ exams, or ✦ scholarship exams, like the Eton King's Scholarship.

● Adult: Functional Skills and Professional Exams (e.g. GES 1 and 2)

I can help you succeed with the ✦ Functional Skills exams at ✦ Levels 1 or 2 as well as ✦ Entry Levels 1 to 3 and any ✦ professional exams with a maths element. For example, I’ve helped some ✦ Merchant Navy Marine Engineers advance their careers by coaching them through the ✦ General Engineering and Science exams for their ✦ Chief Engineer Certificates of Competency.

● International Baccalaureate (AA/AI Standard and Higher)

I can also help ✦ International Baccalaureate students succeed with the ✦ Analysis and Approaches (AA) or ✦ Applications and Interpretations (AI) exams at either the ✦ Standard or Higher Levels.

● A Level: Year 1 (AS) and Year 2 - including Further Maths options

I can also support students preparing for the ✦ Core/Pure Mathematics, ✦ Statistics, and ✦ Mechanics exams to both ✦ AS / Year 1 and Year 2 ✦ A levels, as well as the ✦ Further Mathematics options relating to ✦ Further Pure Mathematics ✦ Further Statistics ✦ Further Mechanics and ✦ Decision Mathematics.

● MY STUDENTS: Age 4 to 40+

Most of my students are aged from ✦ 10 to 15, but I have helped some from as young as 4 as well as older teens, and others in their ✦ 20s and 30s. These include:

✔ Students in ✦ state schools, ✦ private schools, or ✦ home educating.

✔ Students wanting to compete for the ✦ highest GCSE grades 8 and 9. (Equivalent to a ✦ strong A/A* under the old system)

✔ Students who struggle remembering things like their 6, 7, and 8 times tables and want to overcome those problems.

✔ Students who’d like to ✦ improve on their ✦ predicted grades by 1, 2, or even ✦ 3 grades higher.

✔ Students who’ve ✦ fallen badly behind and need a boost, even to scrape a grade 4 ✦ pass. (Equivalent of an old ✦ grade C)

✔ Students who’ve ✦ changed schools and need to plug gaps to ✦ catch up with their new class.

✔ Students who ✦ struggle in a classroom environment due to ✦ shyness, ✦ autism, or similar issues.

✔ School leavers who have ✦ previously failed their GCSEs or IGCSEs and are planning to ✦ re-sit through college.

✔ Older students who have ✦ left full-time education without maths GCSE but would like ✦ another chance.

✔ Younger students keen to ✦ excel in the competitive ✦ 11+ exam to ✦ win a place in their chosen school.

✔ I've even taught students at ✦ university for 10 years.

Tutoring Approach

Whether we meet ✦ online or ✦ face-to-face you’ll find that my approach ✦ focuses on ✦ your needs. I work at ✦ your pace, towards ✦ your goal, using methods that match ✦ your personal learning style, and techniques to ✦ help you recall what ✦ you need during ✦ your exam.

We will agree on an ✦ overall learning goal, based on your future ✦ exam dates and the ✦ grade you would like to achieve. We will also agree on an initial tutoring ✦ schedule based on your ✦ budget and anticipated ✦ needs. I will then engage with you fully during each session and ✦ identify and ✦ address any ✦ learning gaps effectively as we work through the syllabus.

I will regularly ✦ monitor your progress towards your goal, to ensure that you are ✦ on track to succeed, and recommend changes to your lesson schedule where necessary, for example, if you are likely to need more tuition (or homework) to ✦ achieve your goal.

If you're in school or college, I can ✦ reinforce your fundamentals while working through the same ✦ topics that you are dealing with in class each week, to make sure you can ✦ keep up with your teacher’s schedule. I will also support you with any ✦ homework issues you struggle with.

● ONLINE TUITION

I deliver one-to-one online lessons via ✦ Skype or ✦ Teams where travel is impractical. (Rest assured, these are far better than the group sessions you may have suffered during lockdown!)

In this way, I’ve helped students all ✦ around the UK, as well as several ✦ overseas. They often approach me after having difficulty finding a suitable face-to-face tutor in their own area. But after trying me out, they find my online approach feels ✦ much the same as ✦ meeting in person.

● FACE-TO-FACE TUITION

Students in the ✦ Chichester and ✦ Bognor Regis areas normally come to me ✦ after school, over the ✦ weekends, or during the ✦ daytime if they are home-educating.

✦ My family home is a ✦ quiet and peaceful ✦ smoke-free and ✦ pet-free learning environment, with ✦ easy free parking.

✦ Please Note: I do not travel to deliver tuition because this would severely limit the number of students I could serve. It would also make it impractical to offer you the flexibility to make changes, when you need, sometimes at short notice.

This also helps me to keep my tuition rates low, so you can enjoy ✦ top-quality tuition at a ✦ fraction of the price that some ✦ other tutors would charge (£60-£80 or more) for a similar quality of expertise.

● ACCELERATED LEARNING

I am experienced in applying proven ✦ accelerated learning techniques to help you ✦ learn faster. This means we can cover more of the syllabus in the limited time available.

● MEMORY TECHNIQUES

Even more importantly, however, I am also experienced in using highly effective ✦ memory techniques, to ensure that you ✦ remember what you need to ✦ succeed in your exams. This means you'll be able to ✦ recall what you need, quickly and easily, even while under ✦ time pressure.

● SCHOOLS / EXAM BOARDS

Most of my GCSE and IGCSE students come from the local schools listed below, so I specialize in preparing you for the ✦ Edexcel and ✦ AQA Exam Boards, which are most relevant to your needs. I can also support students preparing for GCSE maths via the ✦ OCR Exam Board. The syllabus for each exam board is very much the same, but there are a few differences in how the papers are structured.

I maintain a full stock of ✦ Practice Papers and ✦ Past Papers with ✦ Marking Schemes and ✦ Examiner Reports from:

✔ Edexcel

✔ AQA

✔ OCR

✔ CIE

✔ WJEC

✔ City & Guilds

These cover a wide range of exams, including:

✔ Common Entrance Exams (e.g. 11+)

✔ King's Scholarship Exams (Eton and Westminster)

✔ SATs

✔ Functional Skills,

✔ GCSE

✔ iGCSE

✔ AS Level

✔ A Level

✔ International Baccalaureate

✔ Small Vessel Chief Engineer Exams

As your exam approaches, I'll coach you through as many papers from ✦ your exam board as possible, to prepare you for ✦ what to expect from each exam paper. You'll get a very clear idea of exactly what your ✦ examiner is ✦ looking for, to give you the ✦ best possible opportunity to ✦ maximize your grade.

So, for example, if you're hoping to pass the King's Scholarship Exam to enter Eton or Westminster College, I can improve your chances of success by coaching you through a full range of past papers, highlighting specific things you may need to change to beat the strong competition.

Similarly, if you're preparing for a ✦ maths competition, like the ✦ Junior Math Challenges or ✦ Scottish Math Council Challenges, I can sharpen your skills by adopting key strategies needed to overcome the kinds of problems these papers set.

I'll coach you in ✦ practical exam strategies to ✦ improve your chances of ✦ success and ✦ raise your ✦ grade, based on ✦ personal strengths and weaknesses I observe while coaching you. These may include your ✦ attention to detail when studying questions, your ✦ overall speed, working through problems, the ✦ general accuracy of your work, and any ✦ specific topics or ✦ problem types that tend to make you panic or get stuck, to ✦ prevent you from wasting precious time during your exam.

I will also review with you how marking schemes work with each type of question so that you'll know exactly ✦ what to ✦ write on your exam paper to get the ✦ maximum marks, along with ✦ checking strategies that will enable you to grade your own paper before handing it in. This reduces performance anxiety both during the exam and while waiting for your results.

In short, I'll make sure you're ✦ thoroughly prepared to ✦ succeed in your exam.

The list below shows the local schools which enter students for maths GCSEs and IGCSEs with Edexcel and AQA. If you attend a different school, just let me know and I will find out which exam board you need to prepare for.

► The Academy, Selsey

► Bishop Luffa School

► Chichester College

► Chichester Free School

► Chichester High School

► Felpham Community College

► Ormiston Six Villages Academy

► Portsmouth Grammar School

► The Regis School

► St. Philip Howard Catholic High School

● School Holidays

I am happy to continue supporting you during your ✦ half-term and ✦ end-of-term holidays, as well as ✦ bank holidays. Indeed, some of my students like to double up during those periods, to ✦ get further ahead while there's ✦ less pressure from other learning. You may even prefer to ✦ switch to a different time slot on those occasions, to fit in with your holiday plans.

● How to Book Your FREE Session:

Simply click on the ✦ "Contact" button at the ✦ top of this page, under my ✦ photo. You will need to pay First Tutors a small Introduction Fee before they'll release my contact details to you, however. So, this FREE lesson is my way of giving you back far MORE than that small cost.

● IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE

I handle new student requests on a strictly ✦ "First-Come First-Served" basis and have ✦ limited spaces for new students. So, to avoid disappointment, drop me a message right now, via the ✦ "Contact this tutor" button at the top of this page. Then we can ✦ set up your ✦ free trial session ✦ ASAP!

● TERMS OF SERVICE
✦ Free Trial Session:
The purpose of your 60-minute free trial session is for you to experience my ✦ personalized approach to tutoring, and ✦ style of delivery. It’s your ✦ opportunity to see for yourself how well my approach ✦ works for you (rather than just relying on the ✦ testimonials left by other students) before making any kind of decision or commitment. It'd be ✦ helpful if you let me know a little about your needs in advance, and I’ll take this into account for your trial session.

✦ Accompaniment
If the student is a minor arriving for face-to-face tuition, I expect an adult to come with them. The adult is welcome to sit in during the lesson or wait in an adjoining room where they can relax and enjoy a cuppa. Wi-Fi access is available.

✦ Punctuality
Where possible, I try to arrange a little time flexibility between sessions, but sometimes my schedule is tight. So, if you turn up late for your tuition, I may need to end our session at the agreed time rather than tutoring you for the full amount of time we had planned. I appreciate your punctuality.

✦ Ad-Hoc (Irregular) Tuition
If you’d like me to support you without committing in advance to a regular schedule, then you will prepay an estimate in advance and I will track the cost of tuition provided (based on the rates listed below) and send you a breakdown whenever your deposit is running low, to enable you to top up as necessary.

✦ Cancellations and Rescheduling
Please give notice of at least 24 hours when you need to cancel or reschedule a session, or you will lose out on that session. I am happy to occasionally reschedule sessions within the same week when given notice of 24 hours, subject to mutual availability.
- If you are paying annually, I am happy to do this without charge for up to twelve of each of the forty sessions booked.
- If you are paying 6-monthly, I am happy to do this without charge for up to six of each twenty sessions booked.
- If you are paying quarterly, I am happy to do this without charge for up to three of each ten sessions booked.
- If you are paying monthly, I am happy to do this without charge for one of each four sessions booked.
You may reschedule further sessions, but I will offset these against the payment you have made for later sessions. This means that your prepaid schedule may expire earlier than initially planned. I do not refund unused sessions or credit them towards future bookings unless you have rearranged them to an alternative time as described above.

✦ Discounts for Longer Sessions
For sessions over two hours, the additional hours will qualify for a discount of 20% so, for example, if your first hour were to cost £25 then the second hour would be just £20 if in the same letter group.

✦ Discounts for Additional Regular Weekly Slots
When you book blocks of sessions via the annual, 6-monthly, quarterly, or monthly payment options, I will reserve your chosen time slot specifically for you. If you wish to book two or more slots each week, you may prepay additional blocks of lessons to run alongside each other. Any additional blocks booked at the same time to run concurrently will attract a 10% discount. If the additional slots are at times rated differently per hour, the discount will apply to the block with the lowest cost.

✦ Tuition Breaks – Holidays and Sickness
Annual: If you choose to pay annually, your payment will be for at least 40 tuition sessions, which need to be used within 52 weeks of the first session. This allows for any breaks needed in the schedule.
6-Monthly: Similarly, if you choose to pay 6-monthly, your payment will be for at least 20 tuition sessions, which need to be used within 26 weeks of the first session.
Quarterly: If you choose to pay quarterly, your payment will be for at least 10 tuition sessions, which need to be used within 13 weeks of the first session.
Monthly: If you choose to pay monthly, your payment will be for at least 4 tuition sessions, which need to be used within 5 weeks of the first session.

✦ Payment Timing
Whether your tuition is based on a regular schedule or not, you should pay for all tuition in advance. If your series of prepaid sessions ends and you continue to receive tuition, then any payment outstanding is in arrears and due for immediate payment. If you settle this within two weeks, then you can pay for these sessions as part of your next block booking. Otherwise, I will calculate the rate for those sessions based on the weekly payment rates detailed in the hourly rates table earlier rather than the discounted block rates. To avoid this situation, you might want to consider paying by standing order.

✦ Rates Tailored to Your Needs
My students mostly book regular tuition slots each week, but sometimes students just need tuition over a week or two, for example, to prepare for an imminent exam, or they simply cannot commit to a specific regular schedule. Whichever category you fit into I can help you. I do however charge different rates, to encourage students to commit to a regular schedule. I also offer preferential rates at times when most students are in school, as well as discounts for scheduling lessons of longer duration or for prepaying lessons for a longer period.

✦ What Tuition Fees Cover
In addition to the actual session delivery time and materials, lesson fees also cover my time:
- Planning your personalized program,
- Monitoring progress towards your goal,
- Preparing individual lessons,
- Selecting suitable homework activities,
- Handling communications like progress reports, and
- Rearranging lessons when needed.

● 2023/24 Tuition Fees
The hourly rates shown below are for students starting tuition from 1st September 2023, or returning to tuition after a break of more than 3 months.

Once you start, you'll be able to lock into these “fixed for life” rates as a continuing student. You can continue for as long as you like, with these rates, provided you don't take a break of more than 3 months.

That means you’ll NEVER need to worry about your tuition costs going up year after year! Your starting fee scale will apply for as long as you like all the time you are a ”Continuing Student” i.e. one who doesn't take a break of more than 3 months.

Within your fixed fee scale, there are times when your hourly rate can increase or decrease, as detailed below, based on things like:

✦ switching to a different tuition timeslot

✦ changing the number of sessions you have each week or the length of those sessions

✦ changing how frequently you wish to pay for your tuition

✦ switching up to a level of study beyond GCSE

So, if you plan to continue studying maths beyond GCSE, it will save you money if you don't take too long a study break over the Summer holidays. This will ensure you keep your ”Continuing Student” status while also preparing you to hit the ground running by preparing in advance for your next level of study.

If you started tuition last year, and haven't saved a copy of the 2022/23 Fees, please download a copy now for your records. If it has already been removed, please drop me a line and I'll email you a copy.

I've detailed below how my rates are personalized for the needs of individual students. I've tried to keep them as easy to follow as possible, but if you find them at all confusing, please just drop me a message outlining what you're looking for (i.e. the exam you are studying for and what day/time you would like to receive tuition. I will then work it out for you and send you a reply, normally within a few hours.

✦ Choose Your Time Band
Subject to my availability, I am prepared to deliver tuition at whatever time would suit you, any day of the week, including during school holidays, as long as it is between 6am and 10pm UK time.

I do, however, charge different rates at different times, to encourage students to choose more convenient times, like normal office hours, compared to very early on a Sunday morning.

I therefore offer my lowest rates for tuition delivered Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm. I call these my “Band A” rates and they are great for home educators, overseas students in different time zones, and other people available for tuition during these times.

My rates gradually increase, from “Band B” to “Band G” to encourage students to book tuition at times that are most convenient, with Monday to Friday rates being lower cost than Saturday sessions and Sunday rates being at a higher premium.

To get the best rate, simply choose a tuition time that is in the lowest possible band you can be available for tuition:

● Monday to Friday
✦ Band A is between 10am and 4pm
✦ Band B is between 4pm and 7pm
✦ Band C is between 8am and 10am and also between 7pm and 9pm
✦ Band D is between 6am and 8am and also between 9pm and 10pm
