Maths and English Teacher in Bath

I currently teach part time in a primary school in Bath. In my 10 years of teaching I‘ve taught across all year groups. I have been tutoring children aged between 5-14 with a whole range of educational needs.

My personal interests are wide and varied;
watching sport, playing football, cycling, walking, trail running, diy, playing the piano, playing the saxophone, drawing, writing spoken word poetry and cooking. Alongside teaching I also have a qualification in barbering.

Tutoring Experience

Most of my experience has been spent teaching in the south west of England , with a year out to teach in New Zealand. I have taught across all year groups, with classroom positions in Year 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 and also considerable supply experience in the others.
I have tutored children between the ages of 5 and 14. I also have experience of tutoring children for eleven plus entrance exams.

Tutoring Approach

A bit like my personal interests and experience, my teaching approach is wide ranging. First and foremost, I believe in the importance of relationship and it’s integral place in successful learning. Whether teaching in a classroom, one to one or on a screen, it is imperative to build good relationships. I take time to get to know the children, their interests, their strengths and weaknesses and also how they view themselves as learners and people. Much of successful learning can be attributed to how the learner views themselves. Equipping the children to have engagement and enthusiasm is as important as the actual taught content.
As a teacher I believe in accuracy and mastery. My vast key stage 1 experience has refined my skills to secure foundational building blocks of learning before moving on too quickly.
I am interested in metacognition and how the child thinks about their learning. I look to create problem solvers who are equipped with a range of different solutions and methods.
