PLEASE NOTE: I am only available until 4pm each day because my evening times are now fully booked.
I also offer a generous discount on block bookings.
I am a Devon-based tutor who offers tuition in chemistry and biology either on-line or in person.
I offer a consultation so we can familiarise ourselves and to formalise a plan of action.

Before completing my PhD in 'Systems Biology' (a combination of cellular biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microscopic & computer programming), I gained a Distinction in Bioinformatics (MSc) and an upper 2:1 in Biological Medicinal Chemistry (BSc). In addition to this, I became an Associate of the HEA (Higher Education Authority) whilst at the University thus allowing me to teach at HE.

Tutoring Experience

During my studies at the University of Exeter, I became involved with undergraduate supervision in both organic/inorganic chemistry and biochemistry practical laboratory work. In addition to this, I was responsible for undergraduate tutor groups, health & safety and chairing the SSLC committee (Staff-Student Liaison Committee).

I began teaching A level Chemistry at the Exeter Tutorial College in September 2012. Here, I teach GCSE and A level syllabus (EdExcel, AQA, OCR A/B and International) including the management & administration of all chemistry practicals.

In addition to my Head of Chemistry teaching role, I became an Examiner for OCR chemistry and most recently, completed a Senior Safeguarding course for Exeter Tutorial College.

Please take a look at my Resources file "Students Improved Grades" that shows my tutoring abilities and how I have helped many students attend their University of first choice.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach will depend entirely on the student as determined by age and current ability.

I may follow a student-led approach to determine specific areas of focus or, alternatively, the student may prefer to chronologically work through the course.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter if the student is starting afresh or employing me to embellish their
current learning - I know that any gaps in a student's basic understanding will undermine their future potential!

In order to achieve improved grades I assess the student's current status, encourage self critical evaluation and provide the necessary literature for the course.

Each unit is covered by a series of class-led exercises that develop into an end-of-module assessment. Following this, any homework the student wishes to do will usually consist of a longer test designed to challenge new theories covered in the module. Once complete, we will progress to the next subject matter.

In addition to understanding the syllabus, I offer invaluable guidance on exam techniques and how to present your answers scientifically & in the appropriate format.

I have 100's of students who enjoyed learning the sciences with me. It is less challenging than you think and all you need is the confidence to succeed..plus a few handy tips!
