Aspiring teacher, I am doing my PGCE for English. My experience prior consists of being a Level 3 Learning Support Assistant in a secondary school supporting pupils with EAL (English as a Language) but also working as an unqualified teacher for maternity cover. Prior to this, I worked with children on the SEN register, thus I have a working knowledge of the school curriculum. I am very patient and motivated, I will ensure I find the perfect teaching strategy for your child. My understanding and empathy allows students to easily connect with me. I have just finished my undergraduate degree with the Open University, specialising in Spanish and English Literature. I have also completed my Level 5 TEFL course. Tutoring is a hobby of mine and from an early age, I have tutored friends and family.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring for over 5 years. My previous job consisted of me having my own withdrawal groups at work and teaching individuals English as a language. Furthermore, I built on their GCSE English Literature grades by teaching them the curriculum for set texts at their own pace. I am very familiar with the AQA specification, but I am now teaching the WJEC Educas specification at my new school. I also have experience with tutoring pupils who study the Pearson Edexcel board.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor my teaching for every individual, I will take into account how the pupil best learns. For Spanish, grammar will be incorporated into listening, reading, writing, speaking and translation activities, regular tests will be conducted and I will encourage the use of ambitious vocabulary. For English Literature, essay planning and knowing the texts in detail will be explored. Action plans and regular goals will be set for either subjects so progress can be seen and this will also encourage motivation. Moreover, the pupil will be involved with the lesson plans so they are fully engaged with their interests/target areas being explored.
