I have developed my interpersonal skills through various activities. I was a senior prefect during my last year at high school and I helped students with confidential issues and also gained experience in discipline. In my sixth form years I was involved in a peer mentoring scheme and I spent an hour a week with a Year 8 maths class as a teaching assistant. I was tasked with helping students who were struggling to keep up with the lessons and I received great feedback from the girls that I assisted. I also have some experience working with adults with learning disabilities. I am a hard worker and very keen to learn. These attributes helped to me achieve A*s in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GSCE levels and I am currently studying Dentistry at King's College London.
I began tutoring cousins and family friends at secondary and GCSE level. I have helped boost their confidence in their own abilities and helped them to progress in their grades. As mentioned above, I have worked with students during school time also and, therefore, I am aware of how lessons are taught. I have a younger sister who is currently studying at GCSE level and I constantly look over her class notes as well to gain an appreciation of what she is taught. I then tailor my lessons for her to complement her knowledge base and deepen her understanding of the subject.
From my experiences, the biggest hurdle for most children is their lack of confidence. Therefore, I work hard to boost confidence initially and try to engage my students as much as possible in the subject. I encourage students to ask questions and get involved in their own learning. My availability is flexible and I am able to travel to the student.
