When I became a private 1:1 tutor, I quickly realised how personally rewarding my chosen vocation was going to be. My approach is to work on children's current primary school targets. I then plan activities which complement what the child is studying in school. I feel that this maximises the benefits of tutoring as children find that following my lessons they return to school and excel in their lessons. The confidence my students gain from doing well at school leads to even higher attainment as children who feel successful will work harder at school and during tutoring sessions. I think it is important for my students to feel that I value their efforts and that they feel listened to. My starting point with a new student is to assess a child's strengths and weaknesses so that I can use this to tailor a specific lesson plan for that child. I am happy to go the extra mile for my students and I regularly provide feedback to parents about their child's progress. I believe that regular communication between parent and tutor enhances the value of tutoring and I am happy to listen to parental requests and to tailor my tutoring accordingly.
