I am a friendly and patient tutor, with experience helping students in the York area since 2017. I am a trained biologist, and have a PhD in Medical Sciences from Hull York Medical School, an interdisciplinary project that provided me with a thorough grounding in biology, chemistry and physics. I have experience in tutoring A level Biology and Chemistry, and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
I hold a current DBS (CRB) check and am available to tutor after school, evenings and some weekends in the York area.
I have 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience, both privately and in school and further education settings. I have provided tutoring in A level Biology and Chemistry to students in the York area, as well as GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics for pupils at a school in York as part of the National Tutoring Programme, which provided me with formal training in best practice in tutoring. I have also assisted with practical sessions and run workshops teaching undergraduate medical and biology students at the University of York and Hull York Medical School.
I like to use a problem-based approach to tutoring, where I set problems and questions before the session, and then discuss the answers in person. I use mind-mapping and colour to go through and consolidate complex topics, and encourage and help tutees to make develop their own revision and learning styles for an ongoing learning experience.
