Hi... I'm Yvonne...I'm a mother of a fabulous son and daughter who are both in their 3rd year at uni.
I have lived in Stafford for 25 years or so. I'm originally from Wolverhampton...born and bred! I have had various careers, mostly managerial but have learned many life skills along the way which have made me who I am today.
I have been working in education for over 13 years now and thrive in helping students achieve their potential so that they recognise that success is achievable both academically and personally.
I have a degree in French and Geography and I am able to tutor pupils up to KS3 in both subjects, as well as special needs.
My teaching experience first began as a Literacy Support Assistant teaching Literacy Progress Units to pupils who were struggling with basic skills and offered tutoring to students who require additional help with literacy up to KS3.
I also offer support in literacy and numeracy for children at both early years and primary stages.
Dyslexia is my specialism and I gained a PGCE in Educational Studies of Special Needs (Dyslexia) in June 2008. This allows me to identify dyslexic type difficulties through assessments and to develop a personalised learning programme based on their individual needs.
I used to work as an Assistant SENCo and Pupil Support Manager within a secondary school in Lichfield. I managed all intervention work at key stage 3, assessing, planning and delivering a variety of schemes of work.Over the last three years, I have also also been managing and delivering Fresh Start, a literacy and writing programme developed by Ruth Miskin.
I am able to tutor weekdays after school or during school holidays. I usually travel to my tutees as I find they work better in a familiar environment.
I am an extremely conscientious tutor and my experience of teaching students of all ages has given me tremendous satisfaction in my work and it has been enlightening to see the students I have taught flourish, both academically and confidence wise.
I believe everyone has a potential to learn but not all routes to learning are straight forward. I have found over the years that low self esteem and lack of confidence very often create barriers to learning, thus impeding progress. This is further inhibited if they also have a learning difficulty. I use a multi sensory teaching technique, regardless of whether my student has learning difficulties or not as this allows the student to develop their weaknesses as well as enhancing their strengths using visual, auditory, oral and kinaesthetic prompts. My role as a tutor would be to show empathy to a tutees needs; to recognise how they can learn to the best of their ability and to enjoy their path to success. I thoroughly enjoy teaching on a 1:1 basis and take great pride in my achievements as much as much as my students do!
