I am a qualified teacher, specialising in Mathematics and Science, but with a background in engineering. I gained my degree in Aeronautical Engineering back in the late 70’s, having chosen the subject mainly to continue with my love of applied maths. I worked for some years as an aerodynamicist before studying for my PGCE in Cambridge.
I started teaching in a Forces School in Germany and then for many years I worked as a supply teacher, which allowed me to continue to work whilst also taking a major role in the wider education of my own children. At various times I taught every age from rising 5’s to adults, but found teaching maths at high school level to be the most challenging and rewarding. For 2 years I successfully tutored pupils, in school, helping them to gain some very good results. More recently I was teaching GCSE and AS level maths in a 6th form College. Nowadays I am employed with a Teaching Advisory Service; tutoring young people, who for various reasons are not in mainstream school.
I try to make lessons enjoyable, believing that learning happens more easily when you are having fun. I will tailor lessons to each individual’s needs, without compromising on curriculum or attainment. I firmly believe in the basic values that respect every individual and strive to help everyone achieve their potential.
