I am a very experienced, English/Lliteracy teacher. I am motivated by enthusing my students and instilling confidence in their abilities. I find small group work and 1:1 particularly rewarding for the progress that can be made by having the time to tailor the study to the student's needs.

Tutoring Experience

I was an English/Literacy teacher for 37 years in the classroom and am now working as an occasional supply teacher in a variety of settings and as a private tutor. I have worked in primary, secondary and most recently middle school education. My lessons have been described as Good to Outstanding by OFSTED and my local Education authority. I received Good and Outstanding for all lesson observations (3) in the academic year 2014-2015, prior to leaving my permanent position
I held the the position of Head of English for 21 years.
I also held the position of SENCO in a secondary school for 3 years and have a nationally recognised qualification in the Teaching of Pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia).
I also held the position of Head of House for 7 years
I have undertaken KS2 SATs marking and have experience of working with Y6 pupils teaching whole classes and delivering small group and 1:1 intervention in preparation for the SATs.
I have a qualification in Adult Basic Education and have worked in the voluntary sector providing tuition for adult literacy.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is to respond to the student's needs at the pace at which they feel able to go, ensuring visible progress, confidence and an enjoyment of the subject. I am happy to work using a variety of methods according to the student's preferred way of working.
