I am a deputy head of maths and maths teacher.
I have written schemes of work for the new grades 1-9 mathematics GCSE curriculum.
I coach other teachers in teaching to individual peoples needs and strength.
I have a DBS Enhanced Certificate.
I have been teaching mathematics for 6 years, with which I have taught both low sets and top sets. I have achieved remarkable progress in all students. My GCSE classes always met or achieved above target. I have been tutoring for 5 years, all my GCSE tutees achieved old grade A and A*.
My approach is to EXPLAIN maths to a student, not to just rote teach a method without understanding its reasons. This is very important as the new GCSE will see students problem solving not answering classic questions. Without understanding how to use and manipulate maths then a student will not know where to even start.
I'm also very patient, I don't tell a student how to answer I probe them to figure it out themselves. Good questioning teaches students to work things out in steps using what they know to get to the next step and so on.
I will go through all subjects in the syllabus and always refer back to and reinforce the core fundamentals of maths that students will use and apply across the whole syllabus. Towards exam times we will work on past papers to familiarise with the language of the questions, the mark schemes and what they need to show and how to show workings and timing.
