I am qualified scientific professional, with a doctorate in Physics, currently employed in the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington. I have 8 years of professional experience in science and many years of teaching maths and physics at all levels.
I have taught primary level Chinese in primary schools around London when I was doing my undergraduate. I have two years of assistance lecturer experience at Lancaster University, teaching graduate level physics, as well as undergraduate mathematics. During this time I was invited to talk about quantum computing to a 500+ audience in a TEDx presentation in Belgium. Even I am full time employed, my spare time is devoted to inspiring the next generation scientist, including children and Alevel students, every year since 2015 I have participated in Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition, engaging the public in physics.
I was brought up in China, from birth to 12 years old, from there I learned fast mental arithmetic techniques and for most parts of my secondary education I did exams without need of a calculator. These techniques are useful not only at the school level, but also useful in a professional setting, where getting the numbers quickly and accurately can give you advantages over others.
I am fully capable of teaching all Physics, Maths related syllabus below University level. I can teach university level physics and maths, subject to specific request. I can offer career advice for children and youths aspiring to study the sciences and and offer adults the act of communication, as I have given numerous talk in the public for science engagement including at the Royal Society and a TEDx talk.
1-1, 1-group and in school experience, I have experience helping A-level students prepare for Oxford university entrance exams and have passed successfully onto interview rounds. I have taught mandarin Chinese in primary schools in Barnes and Swiss Cottage. I have tutored undergraduate students subjects while I was doing my PhD and second master degree. I have taught lectures in Laser Physics to undergraduates and postgraduates while I was employed at Lancaster University.
I focus on understanding, more than remembering formulae. To be able to derive a formulae from first principles is the key to learning the sciences. I will also teach fast mental arithmetic techniques.
Due to the nature of my day job, I am only able to offer tuition at my home.
