About my philosophy and thoughts towards maths: for me, maths is one of the fundamental subjects for understanding the world that we live in. It helps mental development, accuracy of description and the skill of logical thought. It is also essential to capture the attention and imagination of students by being creative in how maths is taught. I also like to convey the natural properties of maths as part of my teaching, to help students enjoy learning. My experiences in the wider world includes working in industry and the application of maths in this setting.
I am a qualified maths teacher with a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) from Exeter University and an MSc from Cardiff University Business School. I studied as an undergraduate in China. As a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, I can also offer Mandarin tuition at different levels, including GCSE.
My experience includes teaching in local secondary schools in Cornwall and 4 years’ experience as a tutor. I have prepared many students for the challenges of GCSE Maths, identifying and addressing the needs of both weak and strong students.
Able to draw upon both traditional and modern teaching methods, I am very confident that I can help your child’s maths education. I feel passionately about delivering the best education possible for each student, although I do not underestimate this task which requires skill and patience. It is important that each student succeeds academically, and I consider the concept of ‘teaching for understanding’, instead of applying purely rote methods, essential.
