Personal Description:

I am an Oxford graduate student studying on the B.Phil. in Philosophy. I graduated with first-class honours in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Warwick, where I majored in Philosophy and got the top first in second year. I am friendly, patient and approachable (if I may say so myself!) I really believe in education. I grew up in Oxford, am based here as a graduate student, and will be until June 2018 at the earliest. I specialise in philosophy, in particular ethics and political theory. I can tutor students in AQA A-Level Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies and the philosophy part of Religious Studies courses. I can also support students doing an EPQ in something philosophy, ethics or politics-related. I am happy to discuss tutoring for other purposes, for example learning for fun/development, essay-writing, and helping less supported students pass entrance exams, e.g. Oxford's TSA. Please do get in touch! :)

Tutoring Experience:

Relevant experience:
• A-Level philosophy tutor
• Taught in school in Accra, Ghana
• Led university revision classes
• Given talks at undergraduate conferences
• Tutored GCSE students
• Led group of volunteer students teaching politics to primary school students
• Worked with young people at the Parasol Project, Oxford
• Had a tutor myself

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor teaching to the student. I offer a free initial session with interested students in which we discuss how I can help. I think that interesting the student is incredibly important. Out of interest springs harder work and results. Seeing the relevance and meaning of what you are studying therefore really helps. Effective communication is another important plank of my approach. This encompasses breaking down ideas into manageable chunks when teaching, using examples and step-by-step explanation. It also involves open discussions about what the student wants, whether that’s to let me lead or to focus on specific areas or skills. I believe my approach is friendly, patient and efficient.

I can teach Philosophy as it's my academic specialism. I can teach citizenship as I've studied politics and political philosophy at length, and have practical experience in this area. I can teach Critical Thinking as the thinking skills this course focusses on are the bread and butter of philosophical reasoning.
