Currently in my final year of Maths at the University of Kent. I am friendly and easy to talk to - many parents have commented on how well their children get along with me. I am easy to contact, being able to call me or email me I will always respond as soon as I can - very rarely less than a couple of hours. I am available alot of the time - due to being at university I have alot of spare time, and so I can often cover times not always covered by other tutors.
I started teaching GCSE students at my Sixth Form Mathematics over four years ago and have been privately tutoring ever since. Tutoring is something I really enjoy, and once I've finished University I'll be aiming to start a PCGE to become a fully fledged Maths Teacher. I have a vast range of tutoring experience and having been through the curriculum myself I am perfectly positioned to understand exactly what students need from a tutor, and how best to deliver it. Having studied Maths and Further Mathematics at A-level I can teach all topics to a very high standard, and have experience with teaching to all kinds of students. These lessons are all about finding out the best way to help somebody understand each topic, and I believe I am perfectly positioned to do this.
I have a straight forward approach to tutoring. After the introductory lesson I will make sure to set out the work we will hope to cover the next lesson - this usually includes asking the student to have at least a read over the subject matter before the lesson. Homework will be set after almost all lessons - for Maths practice is key to being able to perform in exams and getting the grades you need, doing something once and understanding it is not good enough! The homework can either be emailed to me directly to be marked before the next lesson, or handed to be directly and then marked. At the beginning of each lesson will go over any troubles / errors in the homework, to ensure complete understanding, and to ensure we are on track. This is what I have noticed is the best way to teach Maths for the students I have taught, and allows for a regimented lesson structure, to ensure the time spent tutoring is spent as productively as possible.
When it comes to teaching Maths, getting students to go through examples, or going through them together really helps to solidify their understanding.
