Personal Description:

I`m a medical graduate with a passion for teaching. Ive been tutoring full time for 2 years since completing my foundation medical training. I enjoyed teaching junior colleagues throughout university and postgraduate work so much that I decided to do a lot more of it.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a professional tutoring certificate from the the tutoring standards agency and up to date enhanced DBS certificate.

During medical training I realised that I missed the pure sciences, and that lead me to into tutoring Maths and Science. I usually manage to boost my students by 2-3 grades on their final exams. I find this incredibly rewarding. I achieved high A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths at A level (before A* were available) and I'm confident that I can help any student to do the same. Working in medicine has given me the opportunity to communicate in a wide range of pressured and challenging scenarios with diverse individuals. Subsequently I've developed the ability to quickly build rapport with people who are often anxious, stressed or demotivated. This gives me the confidence to connect with a student, communicate effectively and provide motivation when required.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has a different learning style and requires a tailored approach. Initially i like to establish where the students weaknesses are with careful questioning to test their understanding. Once we've identified weaknesses, the aim is to help the student fill these gaps with thought provoking questions and creating and holding space for them to reason it through. I aim not to talk that much, and the student to think a lot. If your brain is hurting after the session, that's a good sign!

This way the student is as actively involved in the process as possible, thereby building and growing independent learning skills which are essential for university and beyond!
