Personal Description:

I am a Biological Sciences graduate from the University of Exeter, and am now in the 5th year of Graduate Entry Medicine at Imperial College London.

In between studies, I worked for a year in a microbiology laboratory, before working for 3 years at the Science Council - one the leading voices for science education in the UK.

I primarily tutor Biology (up-to A-level), and Chemistry (up-to GCSE). I also offer assistance with the application process for prospective medical students, as well as for the UKCAT.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored 2 students in Biology/Chemistry up to GCSE standard, and one student in Biology up to A-level. All of whom achieved A-grades in their exams. I am also tutoring science to one student who is taking the common entrance exams next year.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important aspect of tutoring the sciences is to make the student comfortable to ask any question. I consider my primary role is to work with the student's underlying knowledge, and to foster understanding through questioning. A key element of this is breaking down complex ideas into manageable chunks, focusing on general understanding first, and detail second. I also believe it is important to engender an enthusiasm for all the sciences, as the best students are those who can apply their knowledge. I do this by showing the student how the disciplines cross-over, and demonstrating how the knowledge they are learning for their exams, actually translates into real-life applications. I also endeavour to work with the students on their study skills, to ensure they are revising and answering exam questions in the most effective manner.
