Having grown up in Leicestershire and with my whole family involved in Motor Sport I first fell in love with teaching after living and working at Motueka High School, New Zealand. The experiences gained both inside and outside of the classroom led me to pursue this career path. The ability to combine things which I enjoyed at school (i.e. History and Politics), as well as sport and other extra-curricular activities was an opportunity to good to turn down. The education environment is an amazing place and a fantastic opportunity for all students to develop and learn in the ways which best suit them and it is this principle reason as to why I have remained in the teaching profession.

Tutoring Experience

After leaving school in 2002 I have worked at a School in New Zealand, attended the University of Exeter (History and Politics), worked at St. Edward's School, Oxford, Ryde School on the Isle of Wight and most recently at Oakham School in Rutland. I have taught History from Years 7-13 as well as Politics Years 12-13. I have experience with exam boards including OCR, AQA and Edexcel among others. I am an Edexcel Exam Officer, have experience working with specific learning difficulties, English as an Additional Language and Hearing Impaired Children. I have written numerous Schemes of Work, been responsible for the running of both Academic and Sports trips and tutored many different age ranges varying from those new to Secondary School all the way to Personal Statement advice for UCAS applications. Spending 3 years in Cambridge, where I worked at an Independent Sixth Form College where my role was the Head of Social Science and Senior House Master. Since April 2017, I worked as the Vice Principal of another Independent Sixth Form College located in Harrow, London. Having relocated to Surrey, I am now the Head of Humanities at a mixed comprehensive.

Tutoring Approach

My Approach to Tutoring is one that encapsulates all aspects of learning. I focus on the use of Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic learning, but all of this revolves around a passion and enjoyment for the specific subject/topic being taught. My enthusiasm for teaching and the subject knowledge I possess is what I believe inspires my students to learn and strive to achieve further excellence. Teaching and subsequently learning has to be enjoyable and it is this which leads to the best all round results.
