Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Wenye and I have just finished my PhD in chemical biology at Imperial College London. Before that, I studied Chemistry at the University of Oxford.

Outside of working and studying, I am an amateur violinist (and budding violist) and play in lots of high-level orchestras and chamber groups. I also love to cook and bake, recently started knitting, and my little secret is that I rather enjoy a video game or two…

Tutoring Experience:

When I was at Imperial, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant which involved being a Junior Laboratory Demonstrator and an Undergraduate Tutor. As a demonstrator, I supervised student doing their experiments in the lab, helping them adhere to safe practice and getting them to think about the theory behind what they were doing. As a tutor, I conducted weekly hour-long tutorials in first year organic chemistry, guiding small groups of students through interactive exercises to go over the lecture course material, answered their questions and marked their homework (if any was set).

Tutoring Approach:

I had about 3 hours of small group tutorials per week for three years at Oxford, so I know what it's like to be tutored! The concentrated doses of insight from the lecturers tutoring us were amazing in helping us understand complex and sometimes mind-numbing concepts. From those experiences, I believe that there is no topic that is truly boring or impossible - if someone else has understood it, then so can you… I am also very interested in encouraging effective learning strategies, and I believe in the power of practice to consolidate and build confidence. Above all else, I want you to feel empowered through learning!
