I am an experienced Primary teacher, retired from full time teaching. I have a B Ed [hons] with Maths and I.T. specialism. Previous to moving to the Ashford area I undertook private tution in the West Kent area for about 10 years .However since putting my details on here , about six years ago , l have gained some lovely pupils to tutor around Ashford. Most have now moved on to Senior school and two of them are taking the Kent Test in September. This mean that l have a couple of vacancies .All those taking the Kent Selection Test have achieved success.
At present l am a part time Test Administrator for a large research company. I taught across the Key stages but mainly as a year six teacher . Part of my duties was to prepare students to undertake the Kent Selection test and SATS . I was also employed by KCC to undertake one-to- one tution in various schools including organising and running booster classes.
For 11plus preparation , tutoring is likely to be fairly structured. For the verbal and non-verbal tests - focus is on practice and techniques. For mathematics the focus is on ensuring that the pupil is or has been taught full coverage of the curriculum in order to feel confident in applying his/her knowledge to the test. Revision of punctuation, grammar , spelling and Comprehension practice will ensure all areas of the New Selection test are covered.
For general 'catchup' or confidence building tutoring, sessions are obviously adapted more to the pupil's preferred learning style.
