I am a very patient and calm person with a good sense of humour. I enjoy playing and watching sport and staying as fit as I can, often with the help of my dog!
I also like reading and watching dance and going to the theatre and cinema.
I have been teaching for 27 years and for the last 16 years I have been Head of Maths in a variety of schools in both rural and urban settings. I have experience of teaching from KS3 up to A level and in recent years I have done a lot of individual and small group work helping students to catch up on topics they have found difficult.
I have tutored a number of students in their own homes in preparation for GCSE and A level exams and to support work done in their school.
My main aim in initial sessions is to get to know the tutee's strengths and areas for development, as well as their approach to Maths. Following on from this I would plan to address the areas for development by asking questions rather than giving answers, enabling the tutee to develop ways of thinking that would help them to address problems independently.
I am aware that many people find Maths very challenging and I see it as my job to give my students the tools to break down the challenges into manageable chunks.
