I am a fully qualified geography teacher, with over 10 years class room experience. I have recently decided to take a step back from class room teaching to focus on my young family, but still want to share my knowledge and experience with students to enable them to reach their potential. I feel one-to-one tutoring will be a great opportunity to help students who need extra help outside of school and push them to the highest level they can achieve.
As a fully qualified Geography teacher for over 10 years I have both the qualification and experience teach the subject from ages 11-18. I have held the post of both teacher in charge of Geography and Head of Humanities, stepping down to focus on my family. Different strategies I have used when teaching all age ranges, but GCSE and A Level specifically include: demonstration, presentation, discussion, projects, and even role play. All of which have helped to encourage discussion, group learning, working with others as well as enabling students how can they improve their own learning and performance. This shows my ability to plan and teach lessons which cater for a variety of learning styles, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic, as well as meet the needs of all students through differentiation.
I believe it is important for students to identify areas of weakness, through rag rating their knowledge and focus on those areas. Different methods I feel are successful include, matching activities and using flash cards to develop vocabulary, but most important is looking at exam technique to ensure that students can apply their knowledge correctly to exam questions.
