I am a qualified teacher of Modern Foreign Languages with a PhD in Cognitive Linguistics. I have many years’ experience teaching German, French and English in secondary schools in the UK, as well as on a private, one-to-one basis. I am based in Didsbury, Manchester and now work from home as an online private tutor, teaching English language and literature up to GCSE, Spanish up to GCSE, and French and German up to A-level. I also offer 11+/grammar school entrance tuition, focusing on maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate.

Tutoring Experience

I have spent:

two years teaching English language and literature at KS3 and GCSE on a one-to-one basis in secondary schools in Manchester;

five years teaching German and French (both up to A-level) in secondary schools in the UK;

four years teaching German language and linguistics at the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University;

two years teaching English as a foreign language in schools in France and Germany;

several years working from home as a private tutor of English, German, French, Spanish and maths/English for the 11+.

Tutoring Approach

I specialise in helping children and young people to prepare for exams. I am very familiar with the syllabus requirements for the subjects I teach and these are central to my lessons. The content of the lessons is very much geared to the student’s individual needs, with the result that no two lessons are ever the same. I aim to improve the student’s confidence and attainment through a positive, rigorous approach to teaching and learning.
