Personal Description:

I am 35 years old and have completed my BSc (Hons) Open Science, with the Open University… I have received a clear check from the PNC (police national computer), which is available upon request, along with references from parents. I have a lovely little boy who is a very adventurous three-year old and live with my fiancee Richard.
I have always had a love of books and of teaching, and have always had an affinity with science and maths; when I returned to education I also discovered a love of teaching others and witnessing the 'aha' moment. Since becoming a tutor I have had a dream realised, a job where I love what I am doing and where I can see my success grow with the confidence of my tutees in science but especially in maths.

Tutoring Experience:

I have always enjoying helping others understand their work without giving the answers away. During my studies to re-take my Maths G.C.S.E, and studying for the higher level examination, the tutor would often sit other students who were struggling with the material next to me so I could help with them understand how to work out the calculations and where they went wrong, without giving away the answers. Along with helping to tutor others since who were also studying similar courses as I worked towards my degree with the Open University. I have references (available upon request) from satisfied parents.
The past years working as a tutor has shown me that just an hour a week can work wonders in all areas of the students school life not just in the subjects being taught. In the past year I have worked with children and teens from reception to year 11, and all abilities from learning basic skills to GCSE maths and science. The past GCSE results in August were spectacular for one of my students who went from a F in Maths to passing a with a C with just an hour a week for a year. More recently, I am awaiting the results of this years GCSE maths and science students, while last years results were all above what the student and school expected.Last summer I helped the elder sister of a past student, pass the maths competency test required for all new trainee teachers.
I have experience with children with; Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD, Tourettes, and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

Every students needs are different, some find reading a text sufficient whilst others require a different approach. Whilst working within each child's/persons requirements, learning how to research and producing quality written work are essential. I can work with the students school curriculum, concentrating on the areas in which the student struggles or work to improve their general knowledge of particular subjects. Or we can work through the subject as the student requires at a pace they are comfortable learning at, breaking off when required to reinforce any areas that have been exposed as weak.
However, I do believe that traditional learning methods are essential for learning more modern techniques; everyone is entitled to a good foundation of education. improvement has been seen with all students, including behavior, subject knowledge and confidence in personal knowledge.
