Government and Politics
I'm Veronica, I'm 25 and have an MSc in Global Security with Merit (International Relations) from the University of Glasgow. I previously studied MA German and Politics at the University of Edinburgh. I am cheerful and enthusiastic with a real passion for helping people of all stages to learn the subjects I really enjoy. I am easy-going, patient and happy to go out of my way to inspire others to succeed in German, Politics and International Relations.
I love to learn languages myself and can teach German, I also studied in Germany for one year at the University of Leipzig and have just returned from 2 months in Hamburg where I worked as an intern researching peace and security policy.
I hope to undertake a Phd next year and in the meantime would love to keep busy and pass on my areas to others. I also have experience working with young people as I am currently a girl-guiding unit leader, leading a group of girls aged 10-14. I therefore have full disclosure Scotland.
My real interest is in politics and international relations, which I have studied both at university and A-level. I am well read and up to date in the writing of political science exams and essays as well as dissertations. I have a range of books and materials, and a sound knowledge of political and IR theory. I have now been tutoring politics and IR for 8 months and have previously organised and ran a number of group study sessions and I am familiar with the marking criteria for examinations in political science, and teaching methods.
In German, I have limited experience of tutoring, but have taught my younger siblings (aged 13/17) I have also received tutoring myself in other languages (Russian and Portuguese), meaning that I am quite familiar with language teaching and the expectations of the tutee.
I am hoping to also learn myself from the tutee by listening to their needs and gaining feedback in order to help them gain the most from our time together. The most important thing is that I have a competency in my subjects, which I can pass on. I am enthusiastic and incredibly patient. My approach would be to help the tutee feel comfortable, as self-confidence (particularly in languages) is sometimes the most important step to success and progression. By helping build confidence a person can find the subject more enjoyable. To do this, it is important the subject is made interesting, and that there is two way discussion and interaction. Particularly in politics, discussion and exploration into topics of difficulty to the tutee is most important. In addition I hope to help tutees develop their critical analysis and writing skills. By helping with essay structuring and argumentation as well as proof reading assignments and essays.
I also offer online tuition and proof reading.
