I have been a teacher for 27 years in Hampshire, Germany and Devon and have loved my job. However, the job has its frustrations. I was constantly identifying specific needs for children but found I was unable to give them the time they needed as I had 32 other children all with their own individual requirements. The joy of tutoring is that I can address these needs which is so rewarding. I strongly believe that confidence and self-esteem are key to success and my aim is to make children who struggle in school feel good about themselves.I have always enjoyed maths and my aim is to make it practical and fun.
I was a teacher for 27 years. I spent my first two years teaching in Hampshire. I then worked in Germany for service schools where the military lived with their families. I returned to England and have taught in Devon for 18 years. I have been Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and have trained as a Thrive Practitioner, helping children with mental health issues.
I strongly believe that confidence and self-esteem are key to success and my aim is to make children who struggle in school feel good about themselves. To this end, I assess children as they are learning in order to make the next lesson challenging but achievable and deliver my lessons in a practical and fun way so that children often don't realise they are doing maths. I adapt learning styles to suit the needs of individual children.
