I am a young, enthusiastic and committed teacher who has excellent relationships with the many young people I have taught in my career. I specialise in History, French and Spanish but am also offering English, German and English as a foreign language to GCSE level. I have achieved excellent GCSE results with my own individual students and then collectively as the Subject Leader at my school. I believe in every single student being able to achieve in subjects such as History, English and languages and am confident in teaching to the A-A* or the new 7-9 levels as well as to the C or new 4/5 level for tutees who are requiring tuition in preparation for an examination. I am easy going but yet determined to get the best out of every student/person that I teach/tutor. I am quite out going and confident, I love horse riding and when I am not teaching and I try to put in 100% in all that I do and private tutoring will be no different :)
I have been teaching 10 years and am currently entering my 9th year as a teacher. I am Head of the History department at a multi cultural secondary school in West Yorkshire where I have been working for the last 18 months since gaining a promotion. I currently teach 6 examination classes to GCSE level. I have overseen and been personally responsible for the my previous school department's increase in GCSE results from 30% when I became Head of Department to 70% last year and a prediction of 78% 2 years ago. Since joking my new school, I have increased the GCSE results from 26% to 40% and reduced the predicted progress 8 score from -1.09 to -0.69 for history in my first year. I have excellent examination results with the classes I personally teach and have moved students from grade E to grade C and B and students from a D to an A grade. I have also been a mentor working closely with a student on an individual basis in order for him to achieve his potential and I have also worked closely with an Assistant Headteacher in implementing G&T provision across the school. I also teach GCSE Spanish after school to students and to parents and again achieved 75% A*-C last year and am looking at achieving 100% this year. Teaching is my number 1 focus and when I am at work I am 100% focussed on the students in front of me and ensuring they achieve excellent results. I am also a GCSE exam marker for the Edexcel board and have marked for them for the last 3 years so have a sound knowledge of the exam requirements especially with the new 9-1 gradings.
I have offered private tuition for 5 years now and have taught 5 students over the past year for A-level Spanish and 2 for GCSE History, 1 for GCSE French and 1 for GCSE English. I am
also continuing to teach 1 student GCSE History and another GCSE French into next year as well as continuing teaching one student A-level French. I aim to make tutoring enjoyable, helpful and rewarding whether that be in terms of examination success or simply learning new things. For tutees who are requiring tuition in preparation for an examination, I will teach the knowledge and content required as well as covering the exam technique and skills needed. I will differentiate my teaching also to allow for all tutees to succeed whether they are looking to achieve an A* (new 7-9 level) or a C grade (new 4/5 grade) and aim to tailor my way of teaching/tutoring to what works best for the tutee. I have also taught Spanish to adults who are wanting to learn conversational Spanish for holidays or for enjoyment and to primary school children wanting to learn the basics. I also have taught English as a foreign language.
