I have been teaching languages for over 25 years both throughout Cornwall and abroad. I love teaching and learning languages, and when not teaching I like traveling abroad, surfing or toiling in the garden! I am also a supporter of Swansea for my sins and spent 30 years training in the martial arts! Apart from teaching, I am also a life coach so I know how to get the best out of my students and I also write poetry!
25 years teaching all levels and ages from nursery through to A level and adult learners. I have also taught English in France, Spain and Japan. I used to be as assistant headteacher and director of a Language College back in the day when secondary schools were pressurised into becoming specialist schools. Before that I was head of a very successful language department
which year upon year gained the best GCSE results in the county. Now I prefer to just teach languages and let others worry about the politics and administration!
I am also a GCSE languages' moderator which means I know exactly what students are required to do to perform well in exams.
I like to ensure my students are at ease and feel comfortable with their surroundings. I usually put the emphasis on communication so that students soon become confident enough to have a go. Each lesson we go over the previous work and then build on what the student knows. I am very patient as each student will go at a different pace and this can vary greatly from lesson to lesson. I am friendly and always available outside lessons for extra help if necessary.
If a student has a particular skill (s)he wants to concentrate on or is learning the language for a particular reason eg holidaying or living abroad, the lessons will be tailored accordingly.
