Information About Tony - Canterbury tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Tony:
Tony is a graduate in Chemistry and Physics and a qualified, experienced teacher.
He has also been a youth worker in both voluntary and employed capacities.
He is a qualified youth worker and has held a DBS certificate (what used to be called CRB) since they were introduced.
Tony's career started in secondary schools, teaching science at all levels including GCSE and 'A' level in both Chemistry and Physics.
Tony left teaching after 8 years (in 1995) and pursued work with adults. His new career involved training adults in youth work, leading training courses and devising workshops/resources in the area of Christian spirituality. This continued into working with the unemployed and delivering courses on employability.
Tony has been a one to one tutor on numerous occasions and is good at building rapport and helping people understand concepts. Over the years he has tutored members of youth groups, children of friends and an adult who responded to his advert in a shop window!
Tony returned to formal education in 2014. For the last four years he has been delivering level 3 courses in BTEC Applied Science and, more recently, Access to HE Chemistry.
Tony's main strength is in being able to explain concepts and help students actually understand what they are working on. The confidence students gain from this can then be applied to whatever Examination Board's syllabus they are being examined in.
Tony may not have intimate knowledge of the particular GCSE or 'A' level syllabus that a student is studying. That is less important than understanding the subject, getting the foundation in place for success in exams.
