My name is Tom, I am 22 years old and a graduate in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Southampton. In the past I have studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A level at a college in the top 1% of England in terms of progression and achievement. I also studied Maths and all 3 sciences at GCSE, all of which I achieved 100% scores in. I am happy to provide tutoring in Maths or Physics at A level, GCSE, or primary school level.
I have just returned from a 3 months teaching placement in Abu Dhabi, teaching maths and science in a secondary school.
I have tutored students of all abilities and ranging from primary school to degree level.
During my second year of college I took a tutoring role in maths helping first and second year maths and further maths students with topics they struggled with, in their coursework or exam preparation.
This year I have helped GCSE students at my old school who were aiming for the A* grades in maths and science, to really push them for the grades they were capable of, and many of them achieved these grades which they may have struggled to do without that extra push. I have also privately tutored an AS maths student and an A2 physics student this year, one of which was aiming for 90%+ and the other who was aiming for a C, and ended up surpassing his own expectations of himself.
I also have a small amount of experience working in primary schools in England and also in China.
After achieving 6A*s at GCSE from a low achieving school, I have seen the importantance of a combination of proper teaching and enthusiasm for the subject. I have also seen that the potential of a student isn't fully realised if there only contact time is that in school lessons. In all my sessions I will aim to give the student a real understanding of the topic, rather than just loading them with information which they will not find interesting or useful, which is often the case in schools. For this reason I will make my sessions as engaging for the pupil as possible, walking them through each stage of a concept at first, and then allowing them to apply there knowledge to real situations. This will prepare them for any kind of question that could come up in an exam, as they will have a fundamental understanding. I am confident that they will find this learning process thoroughly rewarding.
I am happy to provide any amount of tutoring, whether you need just 1 session every now and then to monitor progress, or a more intensive course to fully realise exam potential or deeply improve subject knowledge.
