Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a doctorate in human rights law at Balliol College. I completed my undergraduate degree (in English and German law) at Oxford with a first class grade and a prize in one paper. I also completed the BCL masters degree at Oxford, attaining a distinction and a prize. I passed the Bar in 2016 with an Outstanding grade. I am also offering tuition up to GCSE in Latin, German and History. I can also teach law at GCSE or A-Level. I try to be enthusiastic and assiduous, and I will do whatever is necessary to help.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a great deal of tutoring experience. In addition to the four years I have worked as a private tutor at both A-level and GCSE, I have also taught law to both school pupils and undergraduates at summer schools in Oxford. I am also a senior trainer for a student welfare and support charity, for whom I train volunteers to look after their fellow students. I have assisted in teaching mooting to beginners.
Tutoring Approach:
My general approach in languages would be an emphasis on a solid understanding of the grammar rather than the trotting out of set phrases, but this obviously depends on the tutee's level, and just how far they want to go in the language. For history I would probably emphasise understanding the mechanics of an argument. However, once again, this all depends on the tutee, and I will do my best to adapt my teaching to their learning style, rather than trying to force them to adopt their learning style to meet my teaching.

He is, perhaps, like one’s ideal lecturer or textbook: lucid explanations which address complexities, without talking down to, or patronizing, the student.
His analysis of difficult and complex issues is original and incisive.furthermore, Tom is someone who made the classes fun, approachable, I always felt that I can ask any question I wanted.Communication with Tom is also great and he has made himself available through email if i have any questions. He went above my expectation in both excellent communication and proficiency. I cannot thanks him enough for all the help and support provided as there was no way I would be able to pass my first year without him. I honestly think he is the best teacher I have ever had.
I would recommend him.
My grandson has now taken his German GCSE. I know that without Tom's tuition, he could have taken the attitude that there was no point in him doing the exam. Tom proved himself to be a very able tutor, giving my grandson the confidence and knowledge that enabled him to take the exams; feeling much better prepared. As a retired teacher I recognise in him the skills that make a good teacher. His preparation was well thought out, his relationship with his pupil was friendly, but firm; recognising that my grandson had a negative attitude to the subject, he dealt with this in a sensible way that did not leave him feeling patronised. A very professional approach.
